A number of our College members have asked whether the Australasian College of Skin Cancer Medicine (ACSCM) is working with RACGP and other bodies towards an accreditation process of skin cancer practices.
ACSCM is involved actively in such a process.
On June 4th 2008 I have had telephone conversations regarding this matter with RACGP CEO David Wight and with the Chair of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) on skin Cancer, Dr. Jane Smith.
David and Jane have confirmed our integral involvement with the JCC and with the RACGP and other parties in the development of an accreditation system for skin cancer clinics.
Note that accreditation of a practice is different to certification of the doctors working in that practice. The ACSCM certification system for doctors is well established and described elsewhere on this web site.
I hope this allays any concerns our College members and prosepctive members may have. No single organisation has any exclusivity regarding accreditation.
Yours sincerely,
Neil Chorley.
President, ACSCM
